notes from the road--
16th--Open Mikes--Vermillion, SD
Every show is to be taped. Tonight's performance would be a super rad example of sleepeating rock had someone gone to the trouble of pushing the record button. We debated driving home to sleep in our own beds, (which is always best) but are currently enjoying conversation with good friends, Loren and Savanna. Open Mikes is a strange ranger bar, with the stage divided in two by the front entrance. A small but very receptive crowd.
--listening to Cake's "Going the Distance" or whatever it's called. very fitting considering the circumstances. I got dissed real hard a little earlier. I was manning our merch booth when a whole crowd of folk wandered in. I invited the peeps to come checkout our shiznit and perhaps make a purchase. The blond birthday girl sauntered over, looked me over, and proceeded to point and laugh at me, saying, "Oh my God, you part your hair!" I was confused. I'm quite positive this is some kind of insult. I reply, "Well, you part your hair." "Yeah, but you're a boy!" I was caught off guard by this one. Yes, it's true, I am a boy.
17th--left about 10 after going back and paying for the gas we drove off with. ...on our way to Topeka...last night we went skating around the USD campus. I then proceeded to spend a few hot, muggy, sweaty hours napping in the van.
18th--played the Boobie Trap Bar to a small, unreceptive crowd last night. It felt like "Back to The Future."--maybe their kids will get it. Some band caught in a 1996 time warp played after us and I had to keep checking my phone to make sure time wasn't ticking backwards. Perhaps word has yet to reach Topeka that lame-Godsmack-Disturbed-radio-rock garbage is over.
anyways, whatever floats yer boat is what I always say!!
Special thanks to Earthman Rainy for letting us crash at his pad during our stay.
peace, essay!!
